SYN-AKE Peptide – Mizon S-venom Wrinkle Tox Cream

Syn-ake is supposed to be the “botox in a bottle” solution.  It’s an anti-wrinkle chemical, a synthetic protein fragment that is meant to replicate part of the venom of the Malaysian Temple Viper.  It’s been found to work similar to botox – like how botox paralyzes the muscles that cause expression lines.

Technical details:

Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl:  Active compound is based on a synthetic tripeptide that mimics the effect of Waglerin 1, found in the venom of the Temple Viper. The activity of snake peptide reduces the contraction frequency of muscle cells on the face, thereby decreasing the appearance of expression lines. In vivo testing showed an impressive reduction of over 50% in wrinkle size after 28 days. Does not contain preservatives. Clear liquid, no odor. pH value 4.5 – 5.5. Easily water-soluble. CAS# 794590-34-4, 883558-32-5, 56-81-5.

Has been found in clinical studies to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines due to reduction of contraction frequency. Best added to skin serums and creams to target wrinkles around eyes, mouth and forehead.

The Purchase:

This was what I bought:

 IMG_2896 IMG_2901-001

I have some fine lines, and I guess I’m pretty obviously obsessed with getting rid of them.

Mizon products are pretty high quality, have good reviews, and my skin seems to like them.  This one is about $30 on Amazon (shipped from Korea) which at 50ml isn’t cheap, but it’s not as high priced as some others I found.

Use:

I used this daily, applying pretty liberally (I have dry skin so I can put on a pretty thick layer of moisturizer) over my C-Serum, and under my sunscreen.  The instructions say to give it some time before putting anything over top, so I waited about 10 mins before adding the sunscreen.

Texture:

This is a pretty greasy feeling moisturizer, but it layers well under sunscreen without pilling.  In the 10 min wait time it didn’t absorb all the way in.

Once applied, it doesn’t seem to relax or paralyze anything…

My fine lines before:

IMG_2805-001

This photo is 6 months old.  From when I started with the sny-ake.

Yep.  Definitely there.  This is with the syn-ake on it, that’s why I look SO SHINY.  I cover all this with makeup.

Right after application, I wasn’t able to see any real difference.  It’s supposed to be able to relax the lines that come from expression…. but my expressions weren’t hindered in the least, so I don’t think it’s doing what it’s supposed to.

My Fine Lines Now:

photo 2 (7)-001

Harsh Lighting

I can still see them, the 11s are alive and well.

Verdict:

I think this product is an interesting gimmick, but I don’t see enough of a difference to continue its use.  If I like the product as a moisturizer more, I’d probably keep using it, just in case it’s doing some kind of work behind the scenes, but as it is, I’m not going to keep using this one.

Just spring for botox, for actual botox effect.

  4. Pure Smile 3 Step Bust Pack
  5. SKINAZ The Kissable 24H Lip Tattoo in 24H (Orange of some kind)
  6. Hope Girl Night Diva Gloss in Pink Candy

DSC_0041 Oh hey, what’s this thing?  Very interesting.

DSC_0045 Seriously, WTF is this?

DSC_0047 It kind of looks like I could play with it…?  I’m going to play with this.  It’s a toy.

DSC_0049 It doesn’t really slide very well around the floor like the rest of my toys….

DSC_0050  Backup has arrived!  I want to see too!

(The backup cat tasted the tablet, so at this point it was taken away from them.)

SKINAZ Premium Vitablet:  Full Size $46

These are meant to be dissolved in water, then used to rinse your face. They have Vitamin C and “aroma oil” which I assume is what my cat was so very interested in.

DSC_0035

Ladykin Aqua Exfoliater For Body:  Full Size $14

This is a chemical exfoliant I guess, the ingredients are all in Korean, and I don’t read Korean, so I’m not sure what’s in it exactly. Since it “removes dead skin cells” I’m guessing an AHA of some kind.  These is some mention in the writeup about public baths. He products gets sprayed on and then rubbed off so that it will ball up dead skin and remove it. Interesting. I’ve got the question of ingredients list translation to memebox, I wonder if this will help with the KP on my upper arms (bumps.)

Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask: Full Size $46

DSC_0039

This is a weirdly textured bouncy scrub that has green tea, pomegranate and charcoal extracts. The packaging is really nice, and THIS mask smells nice and clay like, unlike my last clay type mask from Memebox, which smelled somewhat like sewage.  I like this one.  I’m excited to try it out.

Pure Smile 3 Step Bust Pack: Full Size $6

DSC_0057

This is the only item that I actually found at all “OMG” worthy. It’s a 3 step process that involves a hydrogel for the bust. I’m pretty excited to try this one.  Hopefully it makes my skin smooth smooth smooth.

SKINAZ The Kissable 24H Lip Tattoo in 24H (Orange of some kind) and Hope Girl Night Diva Gloss in Pink Candy: Full Size $18 and $22

DSC_0059 DSC_0064

Lip gloss is expensive in Korea it seems.  These are OK, I wouldn’t really buy an orangy lip product but I gave this one a try and it’s actually pretty cute. It’s gimmicky in that you put it on thick and let it try, then peel it off. It leaves being the color like a stick on tattoo.  The Hope Girl is very sheer, so I will use this for sure. It’s ombré in the bottle, but just pinky sheer in use.

Total Value:  $152

This box is pretty fun!  I think I’m going to get good use out of everything, especially if I can get translations for the ingredients.

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

  Pretty Great!

Illi Green Tea Brightening Mask: $3 DSC_0013

A Sheet Mask.  I like sheet masks and I’ve had good luck with green tea ones.

Botanic Hill Boh Radiant Youth Ampule Essence & Boh Moist Youth Ampoule Essence: $3.20 and $4

DSC_0015

They are supposed to provide youth.  An ampule and an essence that are supposed to be used together.

Hanskin Bio Origin Royale Ampule BB Spf 30 PA++: $8.40

DSC_0017

DSC_0019 DSC_0021

This is kind of a neat way to package BB cream.  It’s a pretty good color for me as you can see from the swatch, I’ll try it out on my face.  PA++ though.  Not great considering the ++++ of many of the new ones coming out.

Charm Mud Green Pearl:  Full Size $70

DSC_0024 DSC_0027

This stuff smells BAD.  Really bad.  Like that sewagy mud scent I remember from the mud on the side of the road.  It apparently comes from ancient bedrocks and is very rich in minerals.  I don’t know why exactly, but there is a wormwood powder package that is supposed to be added.  Very strange.

Since this is a product I want to try, I asked for help from reddit to get a translation on the ingredients.  This is what a very kind stranger provided as a translation:

씨실트, 정제수, 개산초열매추출물, 할미꽃추출물, 어스니어추출물, 일라이트

Sea Silt, Water, Zanthoxylum Alatum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Beard Moss) Extract, Illite

Not a bad ingredients list.

I plugged the ingredients into COSDNA, which is an amazing website made to analyze ingredient safety and how likely it is to cause acne.  It got pretty good marks, nothing that’s clearly an irritant or pore clogger in most.  I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.

Mise en Scene Curling Essence: $12

DSC_0029

Meh.  I get a lot of this kind of thing, and they are all pretty similar.  De-frizzer with a bit of hold.  Not bad.

Illi Cleansing Oil and Foam Set: $1.65 each (15ml)

DSC_0032

Oil and foam cleansing!  This is pretty much the only part of the korean skincare routine I haven’t tried, mostly because I can’t justify buying overpriced mixed up oils when my argon, jojoba, baby oil and avocado oil that I use for oil cleansing, followed by Spectro Gel.  Cheap and effective.  But maybe I’ll be a convert after this.

Elle Girl I Say Tint You Say Gloss: $23

DSC_0037   DSC_0040

Lip gloss!  It’s bright and I like it.  Not too sticky, goes on smooth.

23 Years Old Air-laynic Pore Masc: $14

DSC_0035

This looks like a yeast infection treatment kit but it is actually kind of an assemble it yourself sheet mask.  I guess it’s supposed to make me look like I’m 23 years old?  It’s pricy!  But looks kind of neat.

Total Value:  $140.90

I wouldn’t pay anything close to $70 for a stinky clay mask, but I guess if they are saying that’s the retail value I can believe it.  Glamglow is more per ml.

This box is OK.  It’s the first that didn’t include a full size sun screen, which I’ve come to rely on.  I’ve been spoiled.  I’ll use a lot of the products, but I think I may be holding off ordering more Memeboxes, I’m tiring of getting so many tiny essences and hair smoothening creams.

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

Just OK, probably will use some, but not all.

MEMEBOX Superbox #23 Summermeeting

My Summer box!

I was so excited for this box, I ordered it ages ago.

What’s a Memebox?

Memebox is a Korean beauty box service that ships from Korea to Canada and the US (and quite a few other countries). In each Memebox, you get 6-8 Korean beauty products, some are deluxe samples and some are full sizes.  The normal box is $23 + shipping (and not shipping per box but per order, so if you order multiples it’s a way better deal.  Superboxes, like the one reviewed here, are between $29 and $39  This particular one was $32.

MEMEBOX Superbox #23  Sumemrmeeting

I love Korean Sunscreen and BB Cream.  That was what I was hoping for in this box, and they mostly delivered.

The Goods

  1. Finco UV Control Sun Block
  2. Hope Girl Power Volume Mascara Wand Waterproof
  3. CNKCOS Transformer Solution 1st and 2nd (They work together)
  4. borntree Bloom Mineral Avenue Air Fir Sun CC
  5. W.HOLIC Glutathion Whitening Essence

 IMG_2963DSC_0028

Finco UV Control Sun Block ($54 for 60ml)

DSC_0035 As I mentioned, I love Korean Sunscreen.  This one is PA+++ and doesn’t leave too much of a white cast.  I usually don’t concern myself with white cast because I always wear makeup, but I think this one could be worn alone too.

DSC_0036 DSC_0037

Hope Girl Power Volume Mascara Wand Waterproof ($22)

DSC_0029 DSC_0033

Waterproof mascara.  Not bad, it’s subtle and natural looking.  I usually go for the MEGA SUPER EXTRA FAT LASHES kind of mascara, but for a day out or at the beach this would be great I think.

CNKCOS Transformer Solution 1st and 2nd (They work together) ($20)

DSC_0053

These are the instructions that came with it: DSC_0055

My main concern is how long this lasts after mixing together.  I didn’t mix it yet because I don’t want to waste it if it’s limited after use.  I can’t find much online about it.  I’m going to wait until I want to try it to mix them, just to be sure I don’t waste it.

borntree Bloom Mineral Avenue Air Fir Sun CC ($21)

 Super cute.  DSC_0043

It’s the right color for me 🙂

DSC_0046  DSC_0047

It blends in well, but has very minimal coverage.  And wow are my hands veiny.DSC_0048

I’ve never tried CC cream, but the card calls it “lighter and more natural looking” base makeup.  This will actually be great for carrying around when I’m traveling next week.  I guess I better spot check asap.

W.HOLIC Glutathion Whitening Essence ($43)

DSC_0041 DSC_0040

Whitening makes me a bit nervous.  If it’s whitening because it gets rid of sunspots (using AHA, niacanimide, or Vitamin C) I am OK using it, but I get concerned when it’s not one of those because I don’t want to actually lighten my skin.

I tested it on my wrist and it’s a thick whitish serum, it doesn’t smell like anything, and it rubs in well.

This product uses Glutathione, an antioxidant.  Taken by the mouth it does all kinds of things, but I couldn’t find much about what it does when applied topically.  I’m going to hold off using this until I get an ingredients list, the search is on

I’m overall pretty happy with this box.  It’s really high value, and I think I’m going to get good use from everything in it. I have about 4 more memboxes coming, I keep getting caught up in the deals and coupons, and if more are like this one I’ll keep on ordering them.

The total value of this box is $160 in products.

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

Will use most products, very happy with the box all in all. Good Buy!

On to the box!

Memebox LuckyBox 2

Apolla wants to know what this is.  She’s very suspicious.

The Goodies!

Espoir Lipstick:  I can’t figure out the color name, I think they have a numbering system, so the color is called RS103G?

This isn’t a color I’d normally wear, and I was actually going to try and trade it away.  But maybe I’ll give it a go.  I never thought I’d wear hot pink, either, and since I got a hot pink balm in my ipsy box, I’ve been wearing it.  The lipstick seems really nice, goes on like butter.  It makes me wish even more that I’d gotten something more neutral.

 Value:  $15 (full siz

e)

Dr. G BIO-RTx Mentor Cream 3:  There were three possible options and I got the one for oily skin, which I do not have.  I will probably hold on to this one until it starts getting hot out before I give it a go.  My skin gets a bit more combination in the summer.  It seemed ok when I spot tested it, so I think this will work for me.

Value:  $14ish?  The full size would be $35, this is a 20ml sample

LJH Tea Tree 90 Essence:  I was a little worried when I saw that this is Tea Tree since usually Tea Tree is something in anti acne products for oily skin, and I’m on Retin A (not for acne though, for my wrinkles) and I don’t want to double down on drying products.  It is created though for sensative skin, and has sea buckhorn and centella asiatica which claims to delay the aging process.  Count me in!

The spot testing went well, so now I just need to figure out where to put this into my skin care routine.  The directions say to apply to cleansed skin so I’m thinking it goes right before the serums.

Value:  $13ish?  The full size would be $32, this is a 20ml sample

Miseenscene 2X Curl Essence:  I’m usually not wowed by hair care products, BUT I just cut all my hair off 2 days ago (I think I had over a foot cut off and now I have a bob) so I’m finding renewed interest in this kind of product!  Since it’s called curl essence I’m wondering if my semi wavy curly hair might do great with this.
Value:  $2, the full size is $10 and this is a 30ml sample

Nugenic Customized Sunblock Fresh SPF50PA+++:  Yessssss I was so glad to get this.  As I mentioned a bit back, I’ve started on Retin A and now I need to be even more obsessive with sunscreen because it makes you more photosensative, plus the sun damage I’m trying to cure will just get worse.  The spot test went great, it seems to rub in smooth without a white cast.  I can’t figure out if it’s a physical or a chemical sunscreen, but I like it either way.
Value:  $45, this is full size

Dr. Jart V7 Eye Serum:  This product is why I ordered this box.  It was a spoiler and I’ve really wanted to try the Dr Jart products for some time now.  On the card is says it brightens the skin and gets rid of any dark circles.

Value: $38, full size product

Well, I’m terribly hung over today (I’m too old for this shit) so I thought I’d really give it a chance to shine.

I don’t know what the appropriate amount is, but I went with a mid size blob (pea size) which was too much.  So probably just a little dab would be fine and this will last a pretty long time I think

Before and After.  I don’t see a difference (except in the angle of the photo of course.)  Maybe this stuff isn’t powerful enough for hangovers.
It feels really nice though, it’s a lite serum feel, and made my skin feel soft.

Leaders Insolution Mask Sheets (2)

Bio Medi-curing Mask Aqua Dressing
Coconut Bio Mask with Tomato
I like sheet masks, and I want to try these… I’m hesitent though since I’m not sure if coconut makes me break out, it seems to be a problem for a lot of people.  Also, I’m not sure if coconut jelly is as likely to cause breakouts as coconut oils. I’m probably going to give this one a go tonight.
Value:  $3 each

I’m overall thrilled with this box.  I love trying new products, and the sunscreen and eye cream alone make this box well worth the cost.  I’m excited to order more from memebox (I have one coming in June already) since their boxes seem to be really really good value and have great products (because high value products I don’t like aren’t going to be worth much to me.)

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

Will use all products, very happy with the box all in all. Good Buy!
