MEMEBOX LUCKYBOX #7

What’s a Memebox?

Memebox is a Korean beauty box service that ships from Korea to Canada and the US (and quite a few other countries). In each Memebox, you get 6-8 Korean beauty products, some are deluxe samples and some are full sizes. The normal box is $23 + shipping (and not shipping per box but per order, so if you order multiples it’s a way better deal. Superboxes, are between $29 and $39 This particular one was $23.

You can earn “meme points” as well for additional discounts, and the way and number you earn is varied and seems a little random. If you want one click here if you would like to use my affiliate link and give me some sweet sweet points or dollars or something. You get 3 memepoints just for signing up right now, which is a $3 value!

On to the box!

The Goods:

  2. Botanic Hill Boh Radiant Youth Ampule Essence & Boh Moist Youth Ampoule Essence
  3. Hanskin Bio Origin Royale Ampule BB Spf 30 PA++
  4. Charm Mud Green Pearl
  5. Mise en Scene Curling Essence

  7. Elle Girl I Say Tint You Say Gloss
  8. 23 Years Old Air-laynic Pore Masc

Illi Green Tea Brightening Mask: $3 DSC_0013

A Sheet Mask.  I like sheet masks and I’ve had good luck with green tea ones.

Botanic Hill Boh Radiant Youth Ampule Essence & Boh Moist Youth Ampoule Essence: $3.20 and $4

DSC_0015

They are supposed to provide youth.  An ampule and an essence that are supposed to be used together.

Hanskin Bio Origin Royale Ampule BB Spf 30 PA++: $8.40

DSC_0017

DSC_0019 DSC_0021

This is kind of a neat way to package BB cream.  It’s a pretty good color for me as you can see from the swatch, I’ll try it out on my face.  PA++ though.  Not great considering the ++++ of many of the new ones coming out.

Charm Mud Green Pearl:  Full Size $70

DSC_0024 DSC_0027

This stuff smells BAD.  Really bad.  Like that sewagy mud scent I remember from the mud on the side of the road.  It apparently comes from ancient bedrocks and is very rich in minerals.  I don’t know why exactly, but there is a wormwood powder package that is supposed to be added.  Very strange.

Since this is a product I want to try, I asked for help from reddit to get a translation on the ingredients.  This is what a very kind stranger provided as a translation:

씨실트, 정제수, 개산초열매추출물, 할미꽃추출물, 어스니어추출물, 일라이트

Sea Silt, Water, Zanthoxylum Alatum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Beard Moss) Extract, Illite

Not a bad ingredients list.

I plugged the ingredients into COSDNA, which is an amazing website made to analyze ingredient safety and how likely it is to cause acne.  It got pretty good marks, nothing that’s clearly an irritant or pore clogger in most.  I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.

Mise en Scene Curling Essence: $12

DSC_0029

Meh.  I get a lot of this kind of thing, and they are all pretty similar.  De-frizzer with a bit of hold.  Not bad.

Illi Cleansing Oil and Foam Set: $1.65 each (15ml)

DSC_0032

Oil and foam cleansing!  This is pretty much the only part of the korean skincare routine I haven’t tried, mostly because I can’t justify buying overpriced mixed up oils when my argon, jojoba, baby oil and avocado oil that I use for oil cleansing, followed by Spectro Gel.  Cheap and effective.  But maybe I’ll be a convert after this.

Elle Girl I Say Tint You Say Gloss: $23

DSC_0037   DSC_0040

Lip gloss!  It’s bright and I like it.  Not too sticky, goes on smooth.

23 Years Old Air-laynic Pore Masc: $14

DSC_0035

This looks like a yeast infection treatment kit but it is actually kind of an assemble it yourself sheet mask.  I guess it’s supposed to make me look like I’m 23 years old?  It’s pricy!  But looks kind of neat.

Total Value:  $140.90

I wouldn’t pay anything close to $70 for a stinky clay mask, but I guess if they are saying that’s the retail value I can believe it.  Glamglow is more per ml.

This box is OK.  It’s the first that didn’t include a full size sun screen, which I’ve come to rely on.  I’ve been spoiled.  I’ll use a lot of the products, but I think I may be holding off ordering more Memeboxes, I’m tiring of getting so many tiny essences and hair smoothening creams.

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

Just OK, probably will use some, but not all.

IPSY July 2014

DSC_0021

What’s an IPSY: IPSY sends out a package of surprises in the GLAM BAG (well, they spoil the surprise right before they ship, but when you but you don’t know what you are getting so it starts as a surprise.)

COST:  $10 a month (it’s $10 + $4.95 shipping)  Use my referral link to join if you want to share the love!

DELIVERY:  Ships Mid Month (Canada is a bit behind the US shipping from what I saw online)

WAITLIST:  Yes.  But if you refer someone they will move you off it.

This month was pretty good.  I was about to cancel, and I think I’ll give it one more month.

Pur~lisse pur~protect essential daily moisturizer spf 30 (Sample Size $16)

That math seems off… the full size is $55 and this is a .5oz.  Expensive moisturizer.  I liked the one I got a while back that didn’t have spf, so I expect this will be similar.

DSC_0002

derma e BB Creme with SPF 25 (Sample Size $7.35)

This isn’t really the right color for me, it’s a bit dark.  Plus it didn’t really rub in that well.  It’s a decent sized sample though, so I wish it was the right color for me.

DSC_0005

DSC_0006 DSC_0008 DSC_0009

POP Beauty Sunkissed Bronzer (Full Size I think it was $5ish, but it’s sold out on their site and someone on reddit posted that it’s on sale in US drugstores for 75% off)

Looks like it’s probably discontinued.  It’s also the wrong color for me.  I’ll try it and see, but the swatch doesn’t make it look too promising.  Maybe I can use it on my eyes.

DSC_0011

Bare Minerals READY® Eyeshadow 2.0 (Sample Size/mini)

This is pretty small, I like the colors and I look forward to giving this a try.  The swatches seem pretty pigmented and nice.  Pinkish eye colors aren’t normally my thing, though.

DSC_0012DSC_0014

Pixi Beauty Mini Tinted Brilliance Balm (Sample Size/mini)

This is pretty much clear.  It’s apparently supposed to change color on your lips, I don’t see it.  It’s lip balm feeling, not sticky.

DSC_0016

Swtaches

DSC_0018

It’s an OK bag.  Compared to others I’ve seen it looks like I got lucky.  I’m going to keep Ipsy for one last month.  But for now:

(Under $20)

I will use the products that I like, but I don’t expect to buy any.

LIPMONTHLY – June 2014

20140707-195311-71591460.jpg

It finally came. Lip monthly is very new, in fact this is only the second box ever. This box is normally $10 a month, plus an additional shipping fee that’s around $5 if you live in Canada like me. For this box I used a $5 off code (which I believe is still valid SUMMERLIPS) so I got this box for just over $10 with exchange rates, ect, all in. 20140707-195310-71590293.jpg

The Goods:

Lipology – Anti-Feathering Stick ($3.99)

I admittedly had never heard of anti-feathering sticks.  It is supposed to help lip stick not migrate off the lips.  It feels like lip gloss on the lips, and has no color on its own.

Mary Kate and Ashley – Lip Foils ($4.99)

There are very….. foil like.  I don’t know what I’m going to do with them.  Probably not wear them.

lol – Lots of Love – Lip Stick ($1.25)

This is light, cheap feeling, and orangy.  I won’t use this.

Essie Purifying Hand Treatment ($3.99ish on Ebay)

This is intersting.  It’s like a serum for hands.  Kind of comes out as a whitish liquidy goop.  It smells like hippies, yet no respectable hippie would ever use an alcohol based hand bacteria killer.  (Which this may or may not be, based on various things I found online and the fact that alcohol is the second ingredient.)

20140707-195308-71588853.jpg

Swatches.

20140707-195307-71587844.jpg

Yep.  That’s what I thought it looked like too.

I already unsubscribed from this subscription box. Regardless of the fact that I did get my money’s worth, there isn’t a single thing here that I would ever buy myself, or a single brand that I will buy again.  I was rooting for them as a new company, but I’m not willing to spend $15ish a month (now that my $5 off is no longer valid) to stick around and see if things get better.

(Under $20) Cheapskate Approvedish, but not for this box

Not likely to use the products.

On to the box!

Memebox #12

This box is heavy on the hair and body products, and not in a good way.

The goods

  1. Ryo Anti-Hair Loss Treatment
  2. Banila Co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack
  3. Plagentra White Mark Cream
  4. Plagentra White Mark Lotion, Cream, Massage Cel (sample sachets)
  5. Lvida Nail Polish (blue)
  6. Inter-cos Smooth Sensitive Removal Cream
  7. Palan Crysence Organic Essence

Ryo Anti-Hair Loss Treatment (50ml, $3)

OK.  Hair loss treatment may be handy for some people, I’ll admit that.  But for the demographic that is into Memebox, somehow I doubt this is going to be a hit.

Banila Co. Claypatra Mineral Salt Clay Pack (12g, $2.52)

INGREDIENTS:  Shea butter, macadamia seed oil, trehalose, honey extract, edelweiss extract, calendu la flower extract, chamomile flower extract (I found theses on Tester Korea, it’s so aggravating when products don’t just list the ingredients on the box.)

After entering the ingredients in Cos DNA I’m pretty happy to see that there is nothing irritating or acne triggering.

This is something I do look forward to trying.  I have dry skin, but I’ve been intrigued by clay masks for a while, and I’m glad I got a sample of what looks like a pretty good one.

Plagentra White Mark Cream (15g, $5.70)

This is stretch mark cream.  The product description claims it’s scientifically approved for treating overly stretched skin and to blanace out any uneven skin tone on your body.  OK.

I put stretch mark creams into the same category as I put cellulite and other slimming creams.  Sometimes they can make nice lotions, but that’s about all they are. I’ll try it and I see if it can prove me wrong.

Plagentra White Mark Lotion, Cream, Massage Cel (sample sachets)

These are just sample of the rest of the line for getting rid of stretch marks.

Lvida Nail Polish (blue) (Full Size, $7)

This is cute, and I will use it.  I like blue nail polish.

Inter-cos Smooth Sensitive Removal Cream (Full Size, $43)

I hate this kind of product.  I almost always get a weird scale like rash across my shins (if it works to remove hair.)  This one is supposed to be for sensitive skin, but it’s a spray, which I generally find kind of hard to control and get on evenly.

Palan Crysence Organic Essence (Full Size, $72)

More hair product.  This one is “non greasy”  (it’s a little greasy, but I’m ok with that in a hair serum) and very herbal.

Total Value:  $133.22

I wouldn’t pay anything close to $72 for hair serum though, which in my mind decreases the value of the box by about $50.)

I’m pretty disappointed with this box.  I love trying new products, and the sunscreen, shiny water pack and eye cream alone make this box well worth the cost.  I’m excited to order more from memebox since their boxes seem to be really really good value and have great products (because high value products I don’t like aren’t going to be worth much to me.)

The total value of this box is $165 in products.  I’d remove the Dewy Tree 7 Cut from the “value to me” price, making it still a $125 box.

(Under $30) Cheapskate Approved because it’s so high value!

Just OK, probably will use some, but not all.

MEMEBOX #21 Dermo-Cosmetics

What’s a Memebox?

Memebox is a Korean beauty box service that ships from Korea to Canada and the US (and quite a few other countries). In each Memebox, you get 6-8 Korean beauty products, some are deluxe samples and some are full sizes.  The normal box is $23 + shipping (and not shipping per box but per order, so if you order multiples it’s a way better deal.  Superboxes, like the one reviewed here, are between $29 and $39  This particular one was $39, I bought it during a $10 off sale.

On to the box!

Memebox  21 Dermo Cosmetics

I bought this box because I thought it would likely contain non-irritating, effective products.  I had hoped for free of scents, and free of irritants.

The Goods

  1. Dr Oracle Real White Eye Gel
  2. Dr Oracle Easy Care Shiny Water Pack
  3. Kangskin Beauty Multi Block Sun Cream
  4. Kangskin Beauty Scalp Treatment Shampoo
  5. Dewy Tree 7 Cut Facial Cream
  6. Kangskin Beauty Aqua Soothing Mask
    IMG_2963IMG_2968

Dewy Tree 7 Cut Facial Cream $40 Value:

INGREDIENTS:  Water, chamaecyparis obtusa water, hydrogenated polydecine, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, dipropylene glycol, shea butter, cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, triethyhexanion, macadamia temifolica seed oil, polyglyceryl-3 methylglucose disterate, sorbitan stearate, grapefruit extract, isopropyl palmitate, caulerpa len tillfera extract, ecklonia cava extract, cladosiphon okamuranus extract, ceramide 3, althea rosea root extract, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, sciadopitys verticillata root extract, polygonum multiforum root extract, eleuthro root extract, portulaca oleracea extract, panax ginsing root extract, asparagus cochinchinesis root extract, betaine, trehalose, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, glyceryl sterate SE, hydrogenated lecithin, sodium hydraulate, dextrain, citrus fruit oil, basil oil, lavander oil, thuja occidentalis leaf extract, cedrus altantica bark oil, chamomilla recuitita flower extract, cictus ladaniferus resin, pelargonium graveolens flower oil, citrus medica limonum peel oil citrus aurantium dulcis peel oil, pogo stemon calin oil, thyme flower/leaf extract, arginine trisodium EDTA, xanthin gum, carbomer, 1, 2,-Hexanediol, phedoxyethanol.

That’s a LOT of versions of citrus products.  Too many.  COSDNA mainly returned a lot of fragrance and potential acne and irritation triggers.

A product page I found said:  “7 Additive effects of toxic elements are maximized by minimizing the daily cream. Miracle of the forest and the sea blue algae Phytoncide sap effective ingredients helps to improve nervous and tired skin.”

This is probably something I’ll try on my body.

DSC_0036

Kangskin Beauty Scalp Treatment Shampoo ($18):

INGREDIENTS:  It actually says “Main ingredients” on the box, so I guess that isn’t the whole list:  Biotin, collagen, tripeptide, cooper peptide, herb complex, ECT.

Shampoo?  OK, not what I expected.  This stuff smells… bad.  Like medicinal bad.  But my hair seems to like it OK. The product explanation card says that this shampoo is infused with stem cell activating ingredients to treat damaged scalp tissue and damaged hair ends for healthy hair growth.  It’s in a very small container, but you don’t need much, so I guess it will last a while.  I’ll try it for a few weeks and see if my hair magically looks better.  I won’t be holding my breath.

DSC_0040

Dr Oracle Easy Care Shiny Water Pack ($25)

INGREDIENTS: This is another one I can’t find anywhere online.  The product card says it contains grape seed oil, jojoba oil, macadamia seed oil, olive oil, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil and annatto oils.  The box itself has “No added agreeable: parabens, phenoxyethyl, benzophenone, surfactants, animal oil, GMO, imidazolidinyl urea, artifical colors, talc.”  Below that there is a section that says “Fermented Caragana Root Extract” which I guess means it’s got that ingredient.

I have loved every product that I have tried with the words “water pack” in them.  If there is one thing Korean skin care products have consistently been “wins” for me, it’s subtle watery moisture.  I’ve so far only tried this on my hand, but it’s got a watery consistency.

The instructions card says you can either massage it in for 10 seconds, and rinse it off, of layer it under makeup for a dewy look.  Once I’m done patch testing, I’m going to try the latter.  My dehydrated skin always looks much better when it’s made to look “dewy.”

DSC_0042

Kangskin Beauty Multi Block Sun Cream ($42)

I’m always thrilled to get sun screen in my beauty boxes.  It’s expensive, and another thing I’ve had really really good luck with from Korean brands.

INGREDIENTS: Arbutin, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Isomany p-MC, Ceramide

Good list!  I love physical sunscreens, I don’t care about white cast since I wear makeup anyway.  I’m looking forward to using this.

DSC_0043

Dr Oracle Real White Eye Gel $30

INGREDIENTS: Not listed, and another I can’t find online.  The box says it doesn’t have any mineral oil, triethanolamine, sulfate surfactant, talc, artificial colorants.  It contains 8 white flower extracts.

I like this kind of eye cream, and the consistency is liquidy and nice.  I’m still using the Dr Jart from a previous Memebox, so this will go into the “to try later” pile.

DSC_0050

Kangskin Beauty Aqua Soothing Mask $10

More stem cell activating ingredients!

I love sheet masks, so I’ll try this one soon.

I’m overall pretty happy with this box.

Will use most products, very happy with the box all in all. Good Buy!
